The Irish bouzouki is a versatile folk instrument that first appeared in 1969 when musician Dónal Lunny modified a Greek bouzouki for Irish folk music. Popularized by Lunny’s band Planxty in 1972, the instrument has since become a staple in traditional Irish ensembles.
Gold Tone’s BZ-500 is designed to capture that classic tone with modern playability. Featuring octave strings on the third and fourth courses and unison strings on the first and second, it produces a rich, dramatic sound perfect for Irish folk music. With a solid spruce top, mahogany back and sides, and precision setup by Gold Tone’s luthiers, it delivers both tradition and performance reliability. Includes a hard shell case and is available in a left-handed model.
Best For
Traditional Irish folk musicians, world music players, and performers seeking an authentic bouzouki tone with reliable modern construction.
