The Irish bouzouki (cittern) is a versatile folk instrument, tuned in multiple ways such as GDAD, GDAE, ADAD, and CFAD. Its story begins in 1969 when Irish musician Dónal Lunny modified a Greek bouzouki by reversing the strings and mounting them in unison. This innovation transformed the instrument, and by 1972 Lunny had fully integrated it into Irish folk music with his band Planxty.
The Gold Tone BZ-1000 carries this tradition forward. Set up with octave strings on the third and fourth courses and unison strings on the first and second, it produces a powerful, authentic Irish folk tone. Built with a solid spruce top, mahogany body, and precision craftsmanship by Gold Tone’s luthiers, the BZ-1000 is stage- and studio-ready with its Fishman undersaddle pickup and preamp. Includes a hard shell case and available in a left-handed model.
